1. Go to www.twitter.com
2. Click the Get Started! - Join button
3. Enter your real first and last name. (This is NOT posted and will not be seen by anyone.)
4. User name: will follow this format: Entire real first name followed by last initial followed by VALTS. For example mine would be:
BethSVALTS (Use a capital letters where I have used them.)
5. You must enter the words in the ReCapta to move on to the next step. Click enter on your keyboard to get the "Create Your Account" button to show up.
6. Click "Home"
7. In the More Info URL type in (or copy and paste) this URL into the box: www.valtsvirtual.wikispaces.com/American+Government This will give you another way to access the class wiki quickly if you are on Twitter.
8. Write up a short bio. It has to be less than 160 characters. This includes spaces so you will not be able to say a lot.
9. Location: Do not put "Scottsbluff, Nebraska" You can put Nebraska, Midwest, USA, North America, Northern Hemisphere, or Earth. DO NOT give a city name.
10. Select English for the language in which you will tweet.
11. Click the box to PROTECT your tweets. Clicking this box will keep you OFF the public timeline and therefore keeping your updates from being read by potentially weird people. If someone wants to follow you they will have to approved by you before they will be able to view your updates. You are required to allow me and your peers to follow you. If you follow someone on the list of people to follow and they request to follow you back you can allow them to do so if you are comfortable doing so. Also, there might be teachers across the world that request to follow you. Check out their profile before allowing them access to your updates and check with me before giving them access. Teachers across the world have shown interest in the way I am using Twitter in the classroom and they are anxious to watch how we do this.
12. You need to add a digital image of yourself to your account. Click here to get to your image on my Flickr account. If you do not have one of yourself on their then I can take one and add it, you can take one with the webcam on the computer, or you can take one of yourself with your phone and send it to your email.
